my grandmother By Sara Mapelli of Pink Pearl Dragon Posse My Grandmother was a strong brave women born in the north of Minnesota in the iron range………….she was a teacher as most grandmothers are. My Grandmother was a cookie maker of all sorts…..piles of coconut cookies, date spirals, chocolate dipped cookies , peanut butter, chocolate chip, jam filled, and my all time favorite sprits, butter/oleo Crisco hot summer yummiest. My Grandmother was a democrat that would be smiling and cheering on Obama and freaking out as the stock market falls and flips out. My Grandmother was a business major and a civics teacher My Grandmother was one who spent most of the day laughing My Grandmother was the one I spent every summer with . She and my two great aunts lived together. We did art projects and cooked everyday while laughing .……I preferred be with the three of them then with kids my own age. Everyday we had reading hour…everyone got their books and together we read in our favorite chairs. My Grandmother was my great love My Grandmother was a smart loving stoic women who fed your soul with food, politics and fine literature. Growing up we had tea/coffee time at 10 am and again at 3:00pm……….as time got older we had tea at 3:00 and now I try to but its not the same……..but my clock is set for tea at 3:00…..and with love I strive to maintain the daily meditation of tea time. My grandmother was "called home" when she was 94 years old. She called us in the morning at 8am…. I'm dying…. come over……….my mother, and great aunt stayed with her for 22 hours and I got into bed with her until I felt a dark rectangle shadow over me waking me up. I looked at her ….she took a last in-breath and moved on……The three of us left in this family washed her body………….how sweet to wash her body.
